Twitter book deal “A tale of 2 College Students”

Filed under: Social Networking, Marketing with Web 2, 3 or 4.0 — Cliff Kinard @ 15:48

Book deal for 2 College Students for “Twitterature: Tweeting Classics on the Web”

This may be the ultimate combination of Cliff’s notes and social media.  maybe not the ultimate. :-)

The Twitter revolution continues apace as two 19-year-old college freshman just sold “Twitterature: The World’s Greatest Books, Now Presented in Twenty Tweets or Less” to Penguin. What has this world come to?  and who would think that you could twitter any of the classic tales (140 characters at a time…less if they want a retweet.)
Yet that’s the concept behind a new book penned by two rising University of Chicago sophomores, titled Twitterature: The World’s Greatest Books, Now Presented in Twenty Tweets or Less. The project’s Web site calls it “a humorous retelling of works of great literature in Twitter format.”

Back in the Interactive saddle again! I ain’t dead yet!

Filed under: Social Networking, Marketing with Web 2, 3 or 4.0 — Cliff Kinard @ 21:09

Looks like my job role will change yet again and for the good this time. My focus will include social media, ecommerce, seo, sem and every i-acronym you can think of. Needless to say I am psyched!

My first post is about social media planning for B2B. I am reading many blogs and whitepapers…mostly from vendors hocking their wares. Here are a few gems so far.

What can social media do for your business? by Aneta Hall

The book “Wisdom of Crowds” also has given me some great insight…as I review it. by James Surowiecki ( his name just sounds smart, doesn’t it?)

Meanwhile I am using Coremetrics data to set baseline measurements for EVERYTHING before I start my gig. That way I can tell when we make an impact. I had kinda given them up for dead but now that I am using their products it is stunning! Their “Live” product lets me monitor pages as I browse. Kinda like riding the range every day and checking on the herd. It’s a Texas thing, I guess.

Hulu taking a bite out of Apple or Google or Microsoft

Filed under: Funny, Social Networking — Cliff Kinard @ 09:15

Not sure how you win taking on those three jugarnauts but Hulu is doing pretty well. Not to mention taking on the cable companies too.
I like Hulu as a business model but they need to figure out the Hulu to DVR piece before they really get them.

I predict that Cisco will buy them…they already own the biggest provider of DVRs in the world. Go-to-my TV may be on the way!

Here is the article that sparked this rant.

Helping people use twitter to find Jobs and get props!

Filed under: Social Networking — Cliff Kinard @ 09:29

Here is an interesting B2B Top Ten tips for using twitter:
http://anythinggoesmarketing.blogspot.com/2008/12/10-tips-for-using-twitter-and-email.html

Using twitter to find a job nice list from Blogger Jmakkar.com
http://www.loveforbiz.com/using-twitter-for-business-networking-and-even-finding-a-job

Here are a few steps to help you build your professional network followed by some tips on using Twitter to find a job:

  1. If you haven’t already, obviously create an account on Twitter here.
  2. Search for people and even brands in the same industry as the one you are currently working in or the industry you would like to get into. To do this, use the search field in the upper right hand corner or search.twitter.com to search for keywords that relate to your industry. For example, I wanted to find other people already working in or just interested in the mobile space in NYC, so I searched for terms like ‘mobile marketing’ and ‘mobile NYC’. The search will return results with these keywords in each user profiles and from there you can click on the account to find out more about the person. (Note: If you are searching for a job in the social media/pr/marketing industry, check lists that highlight Twitter’s top users because many of them are people well known in this industry. A few I have used are here and here. A great list of brands on Twitter that is constantly updated can be found here.)
  3. Build your network of people you are following and followers. Step 2 is only one way. There is no need to rush this, as it will happen with time and as you come across Twitter links on the blogs you visit and on other social networking sites. Make sure to fill out your Twitter Bio completely and if you make it clear you have the same interests, the people you decide to follow will most likely check out your Bio and follow you back.
  4. Build your presence by not only using Twitter to update your friends and followers on what you are up to, but also to post interesting links and info you come across. This can be from around the web and wherever else you are spending your time. I personally prefer to follow people that share information but I also don’t mind reading about their life to get a better idea of what they are doing and their personal interests. Twitter can be very serious or very fun, so make sure you use it for both.
  5. Start participating by replying to questions, giving feedback about blog posts/mentioned articles, or even introducing yourself with a personalized direct message. Thoughtful replies will get noticed. Some people like to reply to all messages directed to them which often starts short conversations. If someone that you thought would follow you doesn’t, don’t worry about it. They may add you at a later point after a few responses. I try to only reply to other tweets when I have something valuable to add or when my input is wanted for a question that was asked. Lastly, Twitter is also a great way to find out about local networking events and meetups (aka tweetups). Attend some of these tweetups and you will meet new people who will then follow you to keep in touch.
  6. Use the search at search.twitter.com to find specific tweets about companies and recruiters hiring. Search for specific titles you are interested in like ‘community manager‘ or more generic terms like ‘now hiring‘. Also, check out TwitHire which is a free service that has begun aggregating all job related tweets. Take a look at this article which explains TwitHire in more detail.
  7. Get creative with the ways you network on Twitter (or any other social networking site). Plain and simple, more followers will equal more opportunities. The people with the most followers on Twitter gained those followers from doing something very creative or because they are very knowledgeable in what they do and love to share that knowledge. That’s why they have thousand’s of people listening and why you should be to. They way I think about it, using Twitter effectively to follow an industry expert is similar to reading a book written by them. There is a huge potential to learn more from the person both ways.
  8. Sharing your knowledge related to your career interests will create a different type of online resume that may be the deciding factor between you and 30 other qualified candidates. I know if I was a hiring manager and found a Twitter account of a potential candidate, I would browse it.

6 more tips from another blogger job hunting 2.0…I like this one because it has even more tools. http://job-hunting-2.blogspot.com/2008/05/6-tips-for-twitter-job-hunting.html

6 tips here may be useful:

  • Be active- Twitter can make you industry expert.

2.Track your dream jobs in real time
Twitter IM device let you get the information of your ideal jobs immediately.

  2. LiveJournal and Jabber. Go to Twitter device, input your instant messenger address. Simply add twitter@twitter.com to the IM.
  3. Then, you can track. Want a SEO (search engine optimiazation) jobs, type “track SEO jobs” and send to the bot. It will update while there publishes SEO jobs. OK, you can also track vacancies from specific company, industry and postion.
  4. Final, Twitter may update frequent, at this time, you need to limit your location, your industy. I recommend you use GTalk for it’s easy to find the history in your GMail(you must setting it in you GTalk at first).

3.Search most updated openings
Many twitter applications supports the real time search in Twitter. When the job published, you can get the most recent information by searching
Summize. For more search tool, find here in Delicious.
4.Connect to your target company
OK, after you find your right job opening, ask company employee to refer. It seems Twitter is not the place. However, it is. More effective, more efficient than LinkedIn.
You can directly contact the information publisher, follow him/her, send him/her message. In Twitter, use “@somebody” to send public messages. You may show your eager to have the job, ask him/her the detail. It’ll response secondly- only 30 seconds- my best record. :-)

Of course, here is also easy to connect to the company employee. Find jobs in Indeed, search referrers here. Use TwitterMind to search users from the company. @them and ask for refer.
5.Expand your network
You can be an industry expert in Twitter. Expand your network in your field. Follow industry experts, follow their friends (may also experts), network with them, ask them, announce the news or answer their questions. A lot will follow you then. If you want a new job, just in your Twitter, is that cool?
6.Get advices all over the world
Of course, you must have many followers or following much guys. If you have some problem, either interview tips, or salary information, put them in Twitter. Advices all over the world run to you! I love it.
Although, Twitter recruitment may be not very hot now. However, it’ll be! More and more companies will in for the convenient and effective.
Start Tweeting for your next career now

Marvelling over Domino’s nearly perfect delivery on website post-order experience

Filed under: Mobile and Web — Cliff Kinard @ 10:19

Domino’s never had the best tasting pizza but they perfected expected delivery time.  I think that they may have another hit with “Pizza Tracker“!

First of all, I love their order confirmation page that shows your pizza in every step of the process.

Domino’s Pizza Tracker

No more wondering where the pizza guy is or IF he is coming.
I even know the name of the delivery guy when he comes to the door see below “Brian”

Delivery Person Name

Want to get good feedback personalize your survey too.  Are you really going to diss Ursala
for being skimpy on the cheese or toppings?  Harder to give 2 stars to a real person!

Domino’s Pizza Tracker Survey

The ordering system could use some improvements like automatically saving my last three orders or something to that effect.  But all in all I loved the post order system and it blows the competition’s doors off!

Try them next time you need some quick grub in under 30 min! Link to buy some PIZZA!

Look out CISCO is an understatement. This could be a WEBEX killer. Video conferencing that will allow you to talk and share your screen with anyone using Skype Mac beta. I assume you will need the latest version on your side…but not the beta.

Improve your meetings and allow others to participate off-line.
Add your existing tools that can also record the chat with tools from Jing, ecamm.com or SnapzPro and distribute to your network. Much easier video messaging and it integrates well with your current toolset.

Hold your next podcast with 25 of your not so closest friends!
